PERMAMENT MAKEUP, TATTOOS, LASHES and BROWS
PMU is a two part tattoo process which creates mild trauma to the skin which requires healing time. Some clients experience only minor flaking, while others have more significant scabbing and sometimes some minor bruising in lip blush treatments. It usually takes approximately 2-3 weeks before new skin has grown over the area. The second appointment is usually scheduled 4-6 weeks after the initial treatment to be able to evaluate the final colour and allow for full healing.
Therefore it is important to make sure you time your PMU appointments so they are not right before a big event or a holiday, so that you can optimize your healing and your results.
Stop using retinoids and chemical peels: If you're using retinoids or have had chemical peels, stop using them at least two weeks before your appointment. These products can make your skin more sensitive and affect the results of the PMU.
Avoid sun exposure: Protect your skin from excessive sun exposure, as tanned or sunburned skin may not be suitable for the procedure. Sun exposure can also lead to uneven results and increase sensitivity during the appointment.
Moisturize and exfoliate: Keep your skin moisturized in the days leading up to your appointment. Moisturized skin helps the PMU artist work more effectively. Additionally, gentle exfoliation a few days before your appointment can help remove dead skin cells, leading to better pigment retention.
No waxing or plucking: Avoid waxing or plucking the area where you'll be getting PMU for at least a week before the appointment. The artist needs to see your natural hair growth pattern to achieve the best results.
No microdermabrasion, laser or micro needling 2 weeks prior or 4 weeks after. Always tell your laser technician before any sort of photo facial that you have PMU so they don't accidentally remove your pigment.
Avoid blood-thinning substances: In the days leading up to your appointment, avoid alcohol, caffeine, and blood-thinning medications or supplements (unless prescribed by your doctor) as they can increase the risk of bleeding during the procedure.
Avoid Aspirin and Ibuprofen: Refrain from taking aspirin or ibuprofen a few days before your appointment, as they can also contribute to increased bleeding during the procedure.
**COLD SORES** If you are getting lip blush and have ever had a cold sore, even if it was years ago, you must start a prescription from your doctor prior to, during and after your appointment to avoid an outbreak.
Plan for aftercare: Have a plan for aftercare, as proper healing is essential for the best results. The artist will provide instructions on how to care for the treated area after the procedure. Things to avoid for two weeks after are swimming, sweating, saunas, and sun.
Remember that individual preparation may vary based on the specific PMU procedure you're getting (e.g., eyebrows, lips, eyeliner). Always follow the guidance provided by your PMU artist for the best possible outcome.
